Learn all about Dekan Athletic Equipment Corp. and the people behind the scenes.
Founder, George Dekan
Dekan Athletic Equipment Corp. was founded in 1979 by high school track coach and longtime track & field officiator, George Dekan. After serving as a radar technician in World War II, Dekan taught high school electronics and coached track & field until 1965. During his early years of coaching, Dekan sought to improve the accuracy of the standard stopwatch. Combining his knowledge of precision and electronics with his passion for track & field, Dekan invented and patented the 1/100 second Athletic Performance Analyzer, one of the most accurate timing devices of its time. The device was bought and used by NFL teams, including the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals, and helped Dekan forge his new business: Dekan Timing and Athletic Equipment Corporation.
While growing the company, Dekan officiated at track & field events at high schools and universities until the mid-90s. Through the years, Dekan was honored with numerous awards for his dedication and contributions to track & field and cross country. In 2000, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the National Association of High School Athletic Directors, one of three honorees who have never been athletic directors.
From his early days as a high school teacher and coach to his later years as an inventor and entrepreneur, Dekan continued to serve the track & field and gymnastics communities, evolving the company into a premier supplier of equipment for more than 4,000 customers nationwide. Today, George Dekan's legacy carries on. We continue to follow in his footsteps to bring knowledge, excellence, and state-of-the-art equipment to high schools, universities, gymnastic clubs, and fitness organizations across the nation.
